The son doesn't stop, he continues the journey

This poster describes my family tree.

The idea came while observing that of the British royal family. They have information about their ancestors for hundreds of years, while my knowledge goes no further than my grandparents.

Since I think that ordinary people also deserve to be remembered, I designed this poster as a tribute to my ordinary ancestors.

Font pairing

My family tree begins in the late 1600s. There is no typeface that can simultaneously represent modernity and such a remote era. I therefore decided to combine Caslon, an early XVIII century font with soft shapes and classic charm, with Din, a sans-serif created in 1995 that reflects a modern, industrialized era.

Visual elements

I then chose to extend the font pairing's contrast, craft v. industrial, to the visual elements: the tree branches were hand-drawn, with soft curves and a brushstroke effect, while the style of the photographs is a reference to the texture of the portraits on the banknotes.
